Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast

Welcome to the Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast! One of the most powerful ways you can grow your business and expand your knowledge is by having a mastermind group of people who come together to share their business experiences, struggles and solutions with each other. We wanted to document this process by making our mastermind public and completely transparent. Initially this podcast was called Entreprogrammers since we were a group of entrepreneur programmers starting our first businesses, but since then several people have left and new people have joined and we’ve rebooted the podcast as the Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 32 Marcus Aurelius

Derick talks about his production schedule with WatchMeCode, just after spending 2.5 hours behind the mic. The approach that John recommended 2 weeks ago is now working for Derick as he focuses on one project for one week.

Derick’s description of his production schedule is a lesson in itself to all entrepreneurs who plan their daily and weekly schedules. Derick’s estimation on how long a project would take was off just a little. So, how long does it take to write a book?

Do you ever get a potential client who says, “I want a web site. How long will it take to build it?” Capture all of the details to a project that you possibly can. The accuracy of your estimation is counting on it.

Derick has the rest of the year planned out. He is focused, yet consultation is getting a little “scary” as he pushes up against that deadline.

Josh has “too much going on right now” and has decided to quit SitePoint. This successful EntreProgrammer seems to be constantly choosing his successes. What happens when you succeed? Then what do you do? Enter Marcus Aurelius.

It’s extremely important that entrepreneurs learn how to deal with the consequences of success. John talks about this in some detail. Ironically, success can destroy the best of entrepreneurs. John helps to find us answers to this dilemma in the writings of the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 31 Nice! Nice!

John, who didn’t know how to program his alarm clock, was almost a no-show as a result. That’s because time just does not exist in Hawaii. Josh wants to hear all about John’s book, so John gives the details – about 1,000 sold, so far – along with future marketing plans. John plans to rock the community when he returns to The EntreProgrammer arena.

Then a big discussion takes place concerning Josh’s intent to consult. The other 2 EntreProgrammers most definitely have something to say about that – WARNING! But Josh stands his ground. Josh trains to consult. But, what do you have when you consult?

Both John and Derick have backgrounds as consultants and go into rather lengthy detail as to the ups and downs of this entrepreneurial effort. Josh describes how he is going about capturing clients in the consultation arena.

The EntreProgrammers are hot for debate, sniffing the trail of resolutions. What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur? It takes the ability to endure. John pushes the point that when you start, don’t stop and reroute. This will ruin the already developed effort, only to start a new one all over again.

John not only writes books, he reads them, too! And he’s got a great one going now. The author goes into great detail about how to develop new constructive powerful habits offering that kind of growth that gets you places. Discipline is merely habit.

Derick is liking his new way of doing his projects; focusing one week on one project at a time. He explains his achievements and high energy productivity. John notices that Derick seems to be feeling pretty darn good these days. Wonder if his accomplishments have anything to do with that? And so it goes…

The EntreProgrammers Episode 30 Discipline Merely Habit

Derick is making behavioral changes in his project line-up. This week is screen cast; next week, Signalleaf. Is Derick aware of the psychological phenomenon wherein a change of behavior will also bring temporary anxieties?

These anxieties have been known to force an individual to stay in her/his comfort zone which means that the new behavior intended does not become reality. Discipline is merely habit.

Tune-in to see how Derick deals with his new schedule. Some entrepreneurs take on this philosophy: “I love what I do; if it ever turns into a job, I’ll quit!”

Entrepreneurs often go through this exact procedure that Derick speaks of. Are you? This new approach for Derick was recommended to him last week by John and Josh. For this episode, Josh is away on other business, returning to the show next week.

Be sure to check-out some of detailed marketing strategy that Josh and Derick plan to deploy for the development of Signalleaf. For those of you who may have missed it, Josh is now working with Derick in the marketing of Signalleaf – nice!

John’s book sales are likely headed to 7 or 8 hundred, by now, which guarantees that it will go to print. He gives details in this episode. You just might want to hear this whether you are writing a book or not.

Tracking is a necessity when looking for information about the people that traffic your site which, of course, is why you are being tracked right now. But what system should you use? John talks about tracking in real estate then Derick takes it to program marketing.

Derick mentions several ways to get that information. John makes a great point when discussing why a person would use that information and how to use it. There are several reasons, not all of which are good. The EntreProgrammers know; they live it.

Derick elaborates in depth about what information he needs to calculate accurate pricing. These are details that every entrepreneur should have captured along the way to successful marketing and production in later efforts of the marketing arena.

One service that Derick really shouts is: https://baremetrics.io/ Check it out. John shares with Derick, living in the now. Is living in the now a good thing for The EntreProgrammers?

The EntreProgrammers Episode 29 Existential Crisis

Can you help Josh find himself? It takes a long time to know who you are and this EntreProgrammer is in the middle of an entrepreneurial career shift which is causing him to feel a little anxious. During a behavioral change anxieties do occur, but they are temporary.

Could it be that Josh needs to focus on where he is going, rather than where he is? Time, now, for you to listen to this podcast to hear the situation of Josh. Changes like this do happen in the arena of EntreProgrammers; we should know how to handle them when they do occur.

But first this: John wants to know about “the pictures” that were hi-jacked from iCloud. The metadata in this investigation points to a big screw-up by Apple, and just before Apple plans to introduce more of their “goodies” for all of us to buy. Josh accuses John of a hack job cover-up.

Dereck is ready to hang-up the phone on this one. He wants nothing to do with it. What’s your take on this? The celebrity photo hack was first posted on 4Chan – now they’re everywhere. Josh said it best when stating “whatever you think is public.”

The conversation in this meeting of the minds goes to John’s book. The publishers are going on a test ride with John’s beginning chapters – he explains the strategy, but then John is caught off guard and doesn’t want to anger his customers. What do you think he should do? The EntreProgrammers spin into resolution mode.

What about the family? The EntreProgrammers discuss what it’s like to work at home with young children banging on their computers. John gets right to the point when talking about his retirement.

The EntreProgrammers go on the hunt to solve Derick’s existential crisis. Does Derick realize how good he has it? Does he appreciate himself and the wonders of life? It takes a long time to know yourself.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 28 Author Craig McKeachie

John is in Hawaii. Still? Derick broadcasts from Texas and Josh talks from Pennsylvania; and The EntreProgrammers have a special guest, author Craig McKeachie who is broadcasting from his house.

How long does it take to write a book? The EntreProgrammers and Craig tell you.

Craig is the author of: JAVASCRIPT FRAMEWORK GUIDE

                                     ANGULARJS, BACKBONE, EMBER

So, we have 4 authors – also entrepreneurs - in this episode discussing the difficulties that come with writing a book, being a programmer and entrepreneur, and of course, promoting and marketing that which they create.

You just now flew in and have become the fly on the wall.

McKeachie gives the premise of the book that he wrote, “It’s basically like a book that compares and contrasts angularjs, ember and backbone and talks about a lot of the pros and cons and helps you kind a quickly learn them all by learning them together instead of like learning them separately which would require you reading 5 or 10 books, that sort a thing.”

Visit Craig McKeachie at: http://www.funnyant.com/javascript-framework-guide/. This gives you the opportunity to purchase his book in addition to taking in other useful information published on his site.

Down load a sample chapter and the table of contents to read what’s in his book; and check-out the section: LEARN FROM THE EXPERTS which includes Ari Lerner, Derick Bailey, Ward Bell, Brennan Dunn, Brian Sam-Boden and Nathan Barry.

Vacations are supposed to be healthy for you. On the down-side, a vacation can actually hurt you and your entrepreneurial efforts. John elaborates on this subject.

The EntreProgrammers go into a rather lengthy and detailed discussion with Craig about the benefits of doing guest blog posts, posts in a community and article sites. And Craig has a system which, of course, he talks about.
