Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast

Welcome to the Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast! One of the most powerful ways you can grow your business and expand your knowledge is by having a mastermind group of people who come together to share their business experiences, struggles and solutions with each other. We wanted to document this process by making our mastermind public and completely transparent. Initially this podcast was called Entreprogrammers since we were a group of entrepreneur programmers starting our first businesses, but since then several people have left and new people have joined and we’ve rebooted the podcast as the Entrepreneur Mastermind Podcast.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 51 Ship ‘em Pears

(Reminder: We’re back to 1 full episode. Feel better, now?)

Of course, one of the great ways to learn and make new friends to scam on, is at a conference. Chuck has 3 more days left for his online conference which is turning out to be a total success: February 10th, 11th, and 12th.

The conference is from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on each of these 3 days.

John is one of the speakers; you can hear him on the 12th.

There’s a lot to putting on a good conference and if you want some super insider tips…that’s right, Chuck gives them to you in this episode.

The weak in review, Chuck wasn’t sure whether to offer money to the speakers. You’ll find that when approaching potential speakers for your conference, keep money out-of the equation. You can get the details at 1:20:00 in this episode.

Many of you will want to attend Chuck’s conference: JS Remote Conf. To go to this online conference, click this link: https://jsremoteconf.com/

Chuck uses this Internet tool for the conference. http://www.clickwebinar.com/

The EntreProgrammers featured guest is Jacob Williams. He’s the developer of WiLDacademy. Click here: https://www.youtube.com/user/JakeDayWilliams

Jake requests that The EntreProgrammers, at some point in their Mastermind session, address people who are just starting-out in the programming arena which will double in the next year.

In a comment about the show, Jake recommended to The EntreProgrammers to show a picture of their listeners; for example, Jake shows Lavell Edwards Stadium which holds about 65,000 people. Jake gets about 65,000 viewers on YouTube.

To see the stadium full, click here: http://thumb.usatodaysportsimages.com/image/thumb/540-390nw/8122868.jpg

In addition Jake said, “When you are looking for a sponsor you have to show consistency.”

Jake is also a designer in 3D modeling and landscape and interior design. Plus, with his wife involved, they participate in Foster Care.

Jake talks about a prior business he created, called, Fix A Phone, which he later sold and then started http://www.wildlandscaping.com/.

Do a story on potential client. Did Jake get an education? He’s a writer, too. Jake was having a hard time seeing a certain CEO; so, he called and made arrangements to interview this CEO and do his story.

John will have a video-chat with John Martell. https://clarity.fm/

Another way to get in touch with the hard to find person is to buy their product and immediately email them right afterwards – quick hook-up.

Jake gives some fascinating insight to YouTube formats @ 30:32 into this episode.

Kick-starter campaign -- Charles is developing marketing strategies to beginners as well as intermediates and looks for solid ideas to create this approach without discouraging his listeners.

Based on his experience, John cautions Charles regarding a focus on intermediate programmers; programmers are expected to double in number in the next year; they will all be beginners.

Jake brings-up a rather fascinating point: no one is teaching programmers how to be programmers so they can get a job. What?

John suggests that teachers be replaced and students sent down a funnel to get their education K – 12.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 50 Sponsors! Nice! Nice!

One day, you will look back and say, “I knew The EntreProgrammers when…”

You are the fly on the wall. Get comfy because you’re not going anywhere. This fiercely heated debate has captured you in the EntreProgrammers arena.

Well, we screwed-up again – thinking to divide each episode into 2 parts, really – but you unscrewed our twisted minds and so we fixed it; episodes of The EntreProgrammers Podcast will not be divided into 2 parts beginning with Episode 50 Sponsors! Nice! Nice!

Once again, The EntreProgrammers saved by you.

All EntreProgrammers’ minds - twisted at birth – do greatly appreciate your guiding comments. Otherwise, how would we show you to be the greatest of spammer-scammers if we couldn’t spamm-scamm your ideas (to make them look like ours)?

Don’t answer that. Quick, what’s next?

Oh yes, 2 sponsors, now – Cool! Keep it here for more Drip and Telerik! Learn from industry giants who fear not failure…

…because there is no such thing as failure. It simply does not exist. A Portland, OR radio producer once advised a promising radio student to get radio gigs in small markets and “make a lot of mistakes.” Say what?

Mistakes are merely golden nuggets of knowledge used to grow the human experience, sometimes necessary to dig a little deeper to find them. So it was for the radio personality, one mistake after another, the golden journey of knowledge.

A good entrepreneur does not brag of knowledge wealth - be it, give it. Appreciate the positive energy in others and they will in return appreciate the positive energy in you.

Then, do a spammer-scammer digital marketing strategy like The EntreProgrammers do and sell ‘em all your stuff – “teach me how to program my friends with code tutorial.” Nice! Nice!

And so it goes for The EntreProgrammers, analyzing, resolving, to become totally transparent on the front lines in a fiercely competitive marketing entrepreneurial arena mining for those golden nuggets which are then passed on to you. (Get your boots on; it’s a little deep in here.)

Text Box: http://www.Telerik.com/appbuilder
Are you looking to launch your own app startup? Then definitely check out Telerik AppBuilder. With Telerik AppBuilder, you can create beautiful cross-platform mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone using a hyper productive development environment.
Your entrepreneurial financing is critical, of course; the more known about the subject, the better and The EntreProgrammers show you the way in this episode. The EntreGenius tackled the Derick money crisis, quite recently; in 3 weeks Derick went from $25,000 in debt to just under $5,000 in debt. You’ll hear the details on how he did it mid-way through this episode.

However, the Derick stress level in not declining – to accomplish this, more is to be done as his awareness does fortunately guide The EntreProgrammer down the path of resolution. Derick continues to explain that his journey to debt freedom is not quite over.

Good money management eliminates the potential for experiencing extreme financial stress. A stress that is so powerful, it can literally ruin your entire life. Get it under control.

Chuck suddenly takes center stage attempting to start another argument when asking Josh, “So, Josh, what’s your next product?” This leads The EntreProgrammers into a debate about which is better to offer: the product or the consulting. Many wrestle with this issue, now.

The 4 toss this, sometimes agonizing concern, around to make sense of it all. And, apparently, not all are in agreement – independent entrepreneurial spammer scammers. Is this you? So, what do you think it should be: product or consulting?

Jump on in; leave a comment. The EntreProgrammers must know your take on this subject.

If now confronted with this issue, you most definitely want to hear this debate in depth. Where and how should you invest your money? Where and how should you invest your time?

We are talking huge lifestyle issues and developments, here. Join in. Grow yourself. It appears that these 4 bare it all just so you can make your life a little better.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 49.2 The Arena of Web Log

(If you do nothing else today, that’s OK; check-out interviewed.io below.)

These financial genius guys literally whittle Derick’s $25,000 debt down to $0.00. Then, oh ya, here it comes – Derick goes with some “positive news.” Can’t miss this Kodak moment.

JavaScript Fundamentals Screencast Bundle, by Derick, is available “at 50% off.” Do not buy this bundle; it is too good to be true. (I’m fired.) Let’s look at this from one perspective – and only one – capitalism.

Check-out this bundle and calculate how much money you will make with the knowledge that Derick gives you. So, how much? Put your calculation in comments; your perspective is “huge” to those like you. Besides, we’re curious.

In a matter of fact fashion, how much could you make in 1 year using Derick’s JavaScript Fundamentals Screencast Bundle – at 50% off, even? But, have you received your last-chance email from Derick to make the purchase?

It pays to be on Derick’s email list. Get the details at 9 minutes into this broadcast.

It also pays to research. More time should be spent on research than the actual writing of the article. What if you don’t have time? Derick has the answer to that, right here.

Momoko Price does research for Derick. She has helped Derick significantly with http://Signalleaf.com and http://watchmecode.com

So, that’s how Derick beats the competition.

Go to: http://kantan.io/ and get acquainted with Momoko Price and John McDowall. Derick talks about them at about 10 minutes into this broadcast.

And now there is: http://Interviewed.io Find this detailed material at 15:11 into the broadcast. John points out the genius in this web site.

  • Extremely useful tool
  • Who doesn’t want to have a page?
  • Big name will reply to creator of site.
  • Support creator and share it

John explains that he has an “About” page, but will point people to this well formatted web site of the well-known. He said, “I would be surprised if this doesn’t go super viral like in the next few days just because of how many big name people are going to be blasting this thing out there.”

For example, Derek Sivers. He revolutionized the way in which musicians sell their music when he created cdbaby.com. Ten years into this venture, he sold cdbaby.com for $22mil. A great deal of that money goes to help musicians grow as musicians. His following is huge.

You will also find several fantastic interviews with the creator of Cyber PR, Ariel Hyatt and Derek Sivers on YouTube. All worth your time to watch.

In addition, Sivers recently published a series of 16 books, each is detailed with marketing, promotional material and entrepreneurial lifestyle for a certain country – 16 countries with extensively researched material directly related to that countries marketing habits.

About Derek Sivers on interviewed.io

I'm a musician, programmer, writer, entrepreneur, and student — though not in that order. I'm fascinated with the usable psychology of self-improvement, communication, business, philosophy, and cross-cultural relativism. I love seeing a different point of view.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 49.1 The Arena of Web Log

This is part 1 of episode 49. If part 2 of episode 49 isn’t just above, well it should be. Google+ and Facebook are having their heads chopped-off in this episode; John pushes the envelope and actually does an interview – no this is true, coming-up.

Right-off, this discussion heats up fast. Is Google+ worth it? It doesn’t even give you the time of day – or does it? John seems to be straddling the fence as to its “powers.” Nonetheless, he recommends that Derick use it in marketing strategies.

This works out great for Derick because he likes Google+…”one of three people who does,” he says; then Josh jumps in with a list of reasons why he doesn’t like Google+. Check this out.

What’s your take on this? Do you use Google+? Please add to the confusion; leave your highly appreciated comments. Remember, it’s all about you and who you are. So, be you.

Where did blog come from? Web Log. If you are thinking about writing your blog, wishing about someone writing your blog or hoping someone will show you how to write your blog – really show you – click here to subscribe to John’s blog course.

As heard about in The EntreProgrammers Broadcast: http://devcareerboost.com/blog-course/

John conducted a rather interesting interview with a writer now receiving over 100,000 visits per month to his blog – he got there in 14 months. Even writers who don’t have blogs will be interested in this.

“How Taiseer Joudeh Created a Wildly Popular Blog in 14 Months” – interview by John Sonmez.

Get in on this strategy which is being created right before your much unsolicited pears. Josh says that the hard part of what John creates is the coordinating of all these different events that make the equation balance. You get it in this episode. Be there. It’s laid-out for you.

Click here to view the entire video recorded interview: http://youtu.be/-2WZco-8P4c If you are interested in actually seeing the blog itself, well then: http://bitoftech.net

It hits the fan. Of course, you remember that last week Derick was getting tons of advice about how, and with what, to pay off his $25,000 debt. He has revealed all and in doing so this has become a great lesson on financial management in the entrepreneurial arena.

Listen quite closely as it all unravels just for you.

Josh recommends cutting-up the credit card. Not so fast, says Derick who shows good reason to keep it active. Learn the good ways to handle your credit – it can make you, or break you.

John gives good advice when offering this practice: Don’t put anything into savings when you are still in debt. Pay-off your debt, then save. Charles analyzes Derick’s financial situation, and all of The EntreProgrammers come to agreement on Derick’s plan. You’ll find this conversation at about 22:33 into the broadcast.

Don’t get rid of your credit card. Use it for everything that you purchase, advises John, who plugs a credit card company and gets nothing for it – but, hear John’s logic on how he gets paid to spend, and then gets paid to pay it off – yes, he even buys a stick of gum on his credit card. What? Who writes this stuff?

The EntreProgrammers Episode 48.2 The Horror of Debt

This is part 2 of episode 48.

Derick contemplates his email marketing strategy while The EntreProgrammers riddle him with ideas regarding his entrepreneurial direction. What will it be?

John highly recommends that Derick email some of his old subscribes at watchmecode; renew the relationship with new material being offered.

Get in on this conversation to watch how you can spin doctor some of your old friends. Give it a new twist as seen in this episode.

Now Charles is giving the jab, jab, right hook. What? That’s right. This is actually a market strategy and you really should hear the way Charles explains a campaign to Derick. It is literally genius.

Then, Charles wants to know how Josh gets out of bed so early in the morning. Is this a fair question? There is no mercy in The EntreProgrammers Arena.

Do you use an alarm clock to get you up – whenever? Is there a special time that you are shooting for, but have a hard time with just getting out of bed?

You really need to check this out – Josh. He has developed (or stolen) a process by which to get up to according to the time, but according to whenever he hears the alarm. Get the details from Josh about 9 minutes into this broadcast.

In addition, Josh talks about his difficulty in getting to sleep by 10 p.m. It seems that if he does anything at all in the evening, he gets energized to the point of not being able to sleep. So, who do you call for a good night’s sleep?

Derick points out the frustration in logging Tweets – several Tweets. However, there is a solution to this, of course, mentioned by John in this debate – surf here: https://bufferapp.com/

Now hear this: John’s book, titled, Soft Skills, hit number 1 in the U.K. in the technical category; for a short time, he said. Nice! Want John’s book? Go to: http://www.manning.com/sonmez/?a_aid=simpleprogrammer

.Net Rocks featured John’s book, quite recently. Let’s have a look-see. All you have to do is click this link: http://www.dotnetrocks.com/default.aspx?showNum=1088

In this episode, John reveals a rather sophisticated approach to promoting and selling a book for authors to be involved with – could be a new software headed our way. You heard it here, first.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 48.1 The Horror of Debt

(Just a Reminder: Each episode now has 2 parts; this episode is 48.1 & 48.2, so after listening to 48.1, it becomes time to click on 48.2. Do you like this format better – or not. Please leave your comments below. Thank you for being a part of The EntreProgrammers Broadcast.)

Derick and Charles claim to have “friends who are in debt.” Wonder who they are talking about? It appears that both “friends” are about $25,000 in debt. This is a question that an entrepreneur constantly faces – “How much should I go into debt to fuel my entrepreneurial efforts?”

The EntreProgrammers go on the attack.

The EntreProgrammers have the solution and give it to you in this episode. John offers the biggest of advice recommending the services of “a loan-shark” at 10% monthly interest. And, if you believe that, there’s this bridge…no wait, there’s a great horse running this weekend, a sure win.

What is your total debt and how is it affecting your overall performance as an entrepreneur? The EntreProgrammers hit this topic relentlessly with Derick caught in the middle of it all.

John insists that getting out of debt should be the number 1 priority on the big list of things to do in promoting business growth. Debt constantly works against you. Cut-back on everything that you can and focus all of your income to paying off your debts.

Derick claims $25,000 in debt and looks to The EntreProgrammers for an approach to paying it all off. Solutions of genius pour out in this episode for those of us needing debt relief. What is an entrepreneur to do in achieving a debt free lifestyle? Is anyone debt free?

John wrote an entire chapter on debt in his book, titled, Soft Skills: The software developer’s life manual. Click here for John’s book:  http://www.manning.com/sonmez/?a_aid=simpleprogrammer

Some extremely interesting stats come out in this discussion about who we are in terms of spending; hear what Josh has to say regarding our spending habits in this episode. He suggests that a good person for financial advice is Dave Ramsey, someone he used to listen to.

You can check out this financial expert at: http://www.daveramsey.com/

Then Charles jumps in to share his experience with financial budgeting for his family by recommending several ways to cut expenses and that a great way to discover overspending is through http://www.youneedabudget.com/ Drop by and take control of your spending.

In addition, Charles reprograms Derick’s marketing approach to ensure him more income towards his debt. Charles wants Derick to take his listeners “to the next level.” And Josh tells Derick that he hasn’t “focused enough” on which of his products to promote and sell.

A huge recommendation comes out from The EntreProgrammers to invest in yourself. Drop the movies and get a tutorial – grow thyself.

John is overwhelmed by the response that he is receiving using GetDrip.com – nothing but praise for Drip. Oh sure, Drip is a sponsor for The EntreProgrammers. What would you expect? Is Drip really any good? Check-out Drip at GetDrip.com. You’ll be glad you did.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 47.2 A Dark Room for iOS

With the increasing popularity of Amir’s app, he felt it necessary to have a trademark for it, taking 3 months just to get the paperwork filled-out, then another 6 months wait to allow anyone who feels it appropriate to contest Amir’s trademark application.

In this episode, he speaks about how damage to his ownership of the app could take place in that 9 months period. As it turned out, different versions of his app began to appear.

Amir tells how he dealt with this situation.

Tune-in and become involved in community development with Amir who coaches beginner programmers on game development, plus he even wants to get your parents jamming in this community.

Educated parents make it much easier for “young newbie programmer child” to explain what technology is required to create these games.

Yes, Amir will even talk to your parents and give you a good review on your app involvement in the community.

Belt colors are given to indicate that a person is advancing in Amir’s app community. He explains in detail about the Internet community that he is growing on his twitch channel.

“When you really get into game development, you’ll need a nice computer (and maybe a Mac if you want to do iOS development). Your parents will be more inclined to buy you these pricey items if they better understand what you want to do with them. This is a place where they can come and ask Amir questions.” – Source: Amir’s twitch channel

Let’s surf Code Dojo (Amir’s twitch.tv channel) located at: http://www.twitch.tv/xodiak_

“Code Dojo is a game development channel that welcomes all developers (especially beginners). If you’ve never done any game development and want to get started, this is the perfect place to get your feet wet.” And you can bring parents, too. What?

John shares an email campaign gone “south” as he finds that Drip.com email hosting has cancelled his account – so, what is an EntreProgrammer to do?

At about 22 minutes into this episode, he explains the cancellation of his email account – marketing strategy misfire.

This is an opportunity to learn how to deal with a situation like this if it ever happens to you – entrepreneurial wisdom so often needed on the front lines.

Charles is started a video campaign and it’s now your opportunity to get an early advantage to some great material.

John gives some unexpected powerful advice to Charles with respect to videography – how to do a superior profession video project at extremely low cost – you guessed it; check out your local library for video equipment access.

Do you have focus? In this episode, learn Derick’s approach to high volume productivity in the studio by practicing what he calls “his weekly focus.” He’s got it back.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 47.1 A Dark Room for iOS

Amir Rajan is the featured guest in this episode, creator of A Dark Room for iOS.

“Notable events are listed below along with any pertinent information about how it affected downloads, reviews, emotions, and anything else that influenced the success (or failure) of A Dark Room for iOS,” writes Amir Rajan.

Be sure to check-out “Amir’s dev log for aspiring indie devs” for the blow-by-blow action leading up to the creation of this highly rated app.

Looking for “the official web site of ADR iOS?” And/or go to the web site of Amir Rajan.

Amir discusses the marketing value of the media (press) which turns-out to be surprisingly low. Interviews and write-ups in many areas did not translate into what might be considered an appropriate number of “downloads” for his extremely popular app.

He talks about the power of word-of-mouth; if engagement is involved, the results are incredible – an extremely insightful analysis of marketing and promotional strategies, how it all plays out in the highly competive entrepreneurial arena. Listen quite closely.

Audio is used in the form of a “developer commentary” by Amir to promote engagement ending with a personal conversation with interested folks in code-land.

He reveals a rather influential marketing tactic, here, that would be employed by a wise entrepreneur seeking to increase visibility of her/his products and services across the web.

Highly impressed in another promotional aspect, Amir mentions and compares in detail how long of a tail that his creation has cast.

If you are developing software, regardless of your level of achievement, you won’t want to miss the discussion that Amir has with The EntreProgrammers in this episode – no really, it’s true.

Test it for yourself. Jump right in with your comments.

Derick strikes a good perspective when asking Amir how it all came about. Did it happen quickly like an overnight success, or was it ten years in the making.

Ten years is more like it reveals Amir, but a very calculated several years it was. You can hear in another interview explicit details governing the journey of Amir on another popular podcast in John’s:

The EntreProgrammers Episode 45 Happy New Year

In your Happy New Year, look for The EntreProgrammers Podcast to broadcast each episode in 2 parts – same show, of course – and you can still be the fly on the wall.

The EntreProgrammers hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you the Happiest of New Years in 2015 with the greatest of successes in all of your entrepreneurial efforts – unsolicited pears at an all-time high in 2015.

Little persons are the focus in opening discussion with Josh and Charles; Christmas, the global time of year when parents buy their kids sophisticated computers, lots of software and Drip.com to maximize their email marketing strategies – kids rule.

So, what happens when you have an in home studio where you become totally focused in creativity always found while possessed by Artistic Process and your Monster Houdini Child escapes from those new Christmas Shackles?

Well, now, isn’t this splendid; Houdini Child has taken total control of your Creative Artistic Moment (the one that feeds the entire family) and nonchalantly decides to feed your creative moment to the family puppy dog.

Oh, yes, you still need to stay creative, but now it’s for a different purpose and a completely changed focus – to patiently deal with the little person that you love more than life, itself.

Kids rule and you’ll find it listed in The EntreProgrammers handbook, under, “How Do I Get That Creative Moment Back?” This question and answer is discussed deeply by Josh and Charles in this episode.

Ever been there? It’s the emotional paradox so commonly found in the entrepreneurial arena of creative productivity which could lead to stress, depression and lack of sleep – if you don’t handle it appropriately.

Yes, you might even jump off the 8th Street Bridge. So, please listen quite closely as The EntreProgrammers bring you back to that same moment of Creativity in the spender of the Artistic Process.

Incidentally, physical and mental exhaustion often ends up in depression. The EntreProgrammers talk of experiencing lack of sleep, work exhaustion and depression.

We must know our limitations or we will pay the price for our lack of appreciation and self-awareness.

Sometimes getting to know yourself can be a little frightening and emotionally painful; embrace the fear, embrace the reality of who you painfully are; the fear and emotional pain decease; and you can live in the now.

It is to be expected that when you go to the entrepreneurial lifestyle that there will be some extreme changes in your behavior – deal with it because you can.

Josh asks the question of change and Charles tells all about his experiences and how people close to him reacted. You won’t believe how many podcasts that Charles appears on and/or produces.

The discussion also includes adrenaline driven projects because of deadlines, a need to create urgency with your own projects and the hold yourself accountable philosophy to keep you focused and motivated with vision, not to mean that you should live in the future.

Lots of emotion exists in a project. The EntreProgrammers analyze this behavior and Josh says that he likes to engage “that powerful emotional side.”

Their EntrePsychology is reflected in their discussions in this episode.

John joins the team from Washington D.C. and points out that now a productive day is based on the use of pomodoro. Click this link to find out if this techniques is for you.  http://pomodorotechnique.com/

The talk of the EntreGenius pivots to the importance of an “About Page” and debate on the value of a blog and value of social media. Josh, who favors Twitter, says that Facebook is a good place to run an ad, but membership conversions are not plentiful.

John clarifies his statement:  “You need grand recognition on your personal brand.” He makes the argument that an entrepreneur’s marketing strategies need to be focused on the use of video, audio and the written word.

Happy New Year from The EntreProgrammers Fab Four. Have a great 2015.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 44 Size Matters Not

The appropriate use of email is now one of the most powerful marketing strategies on the globe. Normally, these insider marketing tactics are unknown to man-womankind, but you are the unnoticed fly on the wall stealing ideas from The EntreProgrammers Mastermind Session.

Flash Moment:John has a book and he’s the author. He shows a copy on-the-air.

The EntreProgrammers have out-done themselves, this time; they brought in the drip. And for you marketing freaks who dwell in the email arena of entrepreneurial promotions, well, this is your lucky podcast because the drip is here and The EntreProgrammers force him to show you how – how to send thousands of emails without looking like a scammer spammer, that is. Oh, yes, the drip…

You know the drip; why sure, he’s The Drip Captain – Rob Walling, special guest of The EntreProgrammers, in this episode. He is the email of genius. And you’ll never guess how many businesses this guy has/had.

Rob’s lifestyle mostly sees him as product launcher, especially during a Kodak moment when Captain Drip figured out that “nearly everyone has used email to accelerate growth.”

This moment is known as Captain Drip’s Epiphany which led to – you got it - Drip. The question quickly arises: Did Captain Drip figure this out all by himself? https://www.getdrip.com/

He’s one of the Drip founders, also an “angel investor and mentor.” And he speaks. You’ve probably heard him, throughout the entire year – that’s right, startup conferences. And if you read, you’ve also seen him in “national publications.” http://www.softwarebyrob.com/press/

Apparently size does not matter to Captain Drip, author of “Start Small, Stay Small: A Developer’s Guide to Launching a Startup.” It’s a guide to bootstrapping a startup, but don’t plan on making it big – become a small, but mighty, entrepreneur. In the programmer’s arena, small is bigger. http://www.startupbook.net/

Later in the Show: Captain Drip mentions udemy; and John speaks highly of udemy instructor, Dan Wahlin - Architect and Software Engineer at Wahlin Consulting.

Discussion goes quickly to the disposition of a December market right after John announces that he has switched over to Drip from MailChimp. “And why was that, John?” many have asked. Drip is now providing resolution for all of you MailChimp “bashers.”

Well, then, should we all do what John did? Plus, later in the show, you’ll find out why you don’t actually get “unsubscribed” from a mailing list when you click on “unsubscribe,” the dark-side, captured, held without bail with nothing left to loose.

Must make a purchase to gain your freedom - is that even legal?

You’ll hear the latent complex reasoning, in this episode, as to why it is damn near impossible to free yourself from the capitalistic driven talons of a merciless email marketing campaign that is actually designed specifically for you.

Rob is a founder of Drip and wants to know John’s experience with it in email marketing.

You get extremely valuable – “no, seriously” – insider information regarding management of an exceptionally strong rather complex promotional element known as email marketing. John gives Rob the details of his experience with Drip.

Captain Drip quietly listens…after which, the entire focus zooms-in on Rob Walling when John asks, “What are all your businesses, now?” Rob explains his entrepreneurial obsession with business operations.

A genius at what he does, Rob takes it extremely serious when contemplating business change. Stay tuned, keep it here for the insightful business philosophy on behavioral change, quite detailed, from the thoughts of this GeniusPreneur – Rob Walling.

OMG! Derick is, once again, in entrepreneurial behavior “panic mode.” Your analysis is needed, here; please, oh please, leave your resolution to Derick’s nightmare of panic. Fear not though, for Derick is in the confident consulting hands of Rob Walling.

The EntreProgrammers are teaching you by their example – on stage, transparent and vulnerable – quite simply put, you now have an exceptional opportunity to gain a great deal of deep professional insider insight regarding the complexity of the influential strength which is now found to be characteristic in the arena of email marketing. “Oh no, not more unsolicited pears!” And so it goes…held captive in email.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 43 Care Bears Care

There is no mercy in this court as The EntreProgrammers rip Derick a new one – a new landing page that is. Before that, this.

(And about John’s book; keep it here for the details. See end of this article.)

You are the fly on the wall and can’t help hearing Derick talking about his new screencast package – soon to be launched. What’s that you say? It’s already been launched? https://sub.watchmecode.net/mongoose/

Ninety-nine Dollars!!!?? Scammer Spammer!!

…but wait, let’s work this out scientifically. Click on your calculator.

Enter: Is information that pays for itself ten-times, actually worth it? Oh ya, that’s a tough one, alright; and that ain’t no unsolicited pear, neither.

Time now to be swift in your actions. Yes, we know that you outdo everyone; got to have it now! http://watchmecode.net/mongoose

Well, then, go to Derick’s MongooseJS Fundamentals Screencast Package. Nice! Nice! Hint: Do it soon. (But, not if passing on insider trading info is illegal in your country.) It has a 30 day money back guarantee attached to it. Imagine that!

Listen quite closely. These four GeniusPreneurs actually construct a landing page right before your unsolicited pears. What-it-up?

But waves and more waves of relentless criticism seem to have no shattering effect on the “bullet-proof” ego of Derick. True character of a person shines – or not – under this type of intense analysis.

Derick lends a prime opportunity to learn importance of gratitude – all year around.

The people who look inward fill their Spirits with gratitude. The people who look outward fill their Spirits with envy. Which do you think would sell better?

Many are seen expressing their gratitude on Thanksgiving then back to their selfish ways the very next day – not The EntreProgrammers. Perhaps this is why they are so popular. Say what?

Is there a deep latent message here? Is it possible for people to market their services without even mentioning the service that they offer? Get your waders on; it’s getting pretty deep in here.

Charles, John, Josh and Derick are extremely grateful all of the time for you writing comments, so jump on-in to this discussion by voicing your opinions, observations and constructive critical analysis.

After all, it just happens to be all about you – so they would have you think.

So, clue into this episode for the powerful structuring of your landing pages – how to show your gratitude to people who have just landed on your page. Be it done.

Josh has developed a rather “standard Internet marketing funnel.” He simply wants to track it and offer a couple of easy options, but is having trouble locating an app that will do it. John steps in with a solution…

Listen to Josh’s marketing dilemma to see if you, too, share this problem. If you do have a similar trouble, do this: Listen to John’s response, then go to Infusionsoft.

Do it. Be it done.  www.infusionsoft.com/

The EntreProgrammers Episode 42 Unsolicited Pears

Derick quickly begins with a rather unbelievable announcement that The EntreProgrammers have a new “official” sponsor: Baremetrics. Details next…but first…

How would you like to take a retreat – somewhere – with all 4 of The EntreProgrammers? Yes, this could be another scam to make your business better – face to face, though.

Contact them on the “About” page at http://entreprogrammers.com to let them know about your/their retreat, together. And while you are at it, tell them to break this 90 minute Podcast up into 3 sections – or not.

The EntreProgrammers Podcast will be recorded the same as always, in a 90 minute master of the minds, unrehearsed, transparent show; and you are the fly on the wall.

However, if you would like this 90 minute show to be presented in a 2 or 3 part series throughout the week – or on the same day - to give yourself some time to digest the heavy information presented in the shows, please contact The EntreProgrammers and let them know.

They do love hearing from you. (Catch this discussion at 32 min. and 5 sec. into the show.) In other words, do you fall asleep listening to The EntreProgrammers? Of course you do.

Perhaps a series of three (30 min.) shows published on the same day, or on Monday, Wednesday and Friday would help you learn more and sleep less. Write your thoughts to The EntreProgrammers.

Well, now, just hold the phone, here. Were you asked whether or not Baremetrics would be of any help to you, in any way, shape or form? No sir!!

Is this a scam that will end-up making Ramen noodles The EntreProgrammers’ only meal of each day? (Was that racist?) Ramen is a Japanese noodle soup dish, you know.

Or, could it be a conspiracy wherein Baremetrics wants to help you develop your business?

So, let’s get a close look at Baremetrics; just exactly who they are and what they do. Oh no, don’t even think of going to: http://baremetrics.io– not just yet; first, go to the blog that is mentioned by Derick in this episode.

To get what’s-up on Baremetrics, fill your mind with an article, titled, How to have an overnight success in 10 short years, by Josh Pigford – it will get you started and thinking about how fast ten years can fly by.

Time, now, to click: https://baremetrics.io/blog/overnight-successKeep in mind, you can actually call the people at Baremetrics on the phone.

Please send your comments to The EntreProgrammers – after thoroughly surfing http://baremetrics.io– to let Charles, Josh, John and Derick know if they have done the right thing. We hope so! In other words: What is Baremetrics to you - anything?

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Be looking for interviews of The EntreProgrammers conducted by … Steve Young…subjects like how to market yourself course by John and tips from Josh and Derick.

John is getting huge results. Again? He gives you the details on email clicks towards his book. The publisher is not expecting such high results in testimonials and is planning to ship John’s book by Christmas.

Would you like to write a testimonial about his book? Leave your wishes in comments for John to read. Oh, yes…and send a note to Santa!

Trivia Question: What software developer “mostly guided” John in his career? You just might want to latch-on to this guy. (Robert Martin)

What’s that? John’s Cyber Monday sale grossed over $10,000 – get the details in this episode on how he did it.

Charles is organizing and booking a conference that…well, you just might be interested in attending to grow yourself – a lot. Get it here as Charles reveals in-depth.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 40 The Pain of Libsyn

You are the fly on the wall planning informational capture from The EntreProgrammers who are now starting their fortieth episode.

“Do more by doing less” philosophy is reflected in the comparison between Signalleaf and Libsyn; the power of high quality efficiency and simplicity, plus the personal professional attention in service philosophy which is embedded in the design of Signalleaf, as compared to the high learning curve of processing, complexity of engagement and the inadequate corporate philosophy in service that is found in Libsyn does arguably reflect that Signalleaf is more powerful than Libsyn.

Yes, of course, this is a David and Goliath type relationship; but, we all know who won that confrontation. Signalleaf offers an atmosphere where you can actually get more done by having to do less. And so it goes… Signalleaf with its power of simplicity beats Libsyn.

Podcast professionalism has grown significantly over the past 7 years making it imperative that producers book their shows at Signalleaf.com.

Podcast producers new in this highly competitive arena of market and voice should subscribe to Derick's email series that will show you how to do it well.

Incidentally, development of email lists providing informative usable content is a tremendously powerful marketing strategy - guess what – in this episode, Derick leads The EntreProgrammers to an in-depth analytically Mastermind discussion on just how exactly to accomplish the development and implementation of this email marketing strategy.

If you are pressed for time and can’t listen right now, don’t stress; The EntreProgrammers will always be here to hear you – not a problem. So, listen when you can take the time for lifestyle change through growth of your wisdom, knowledge and creativity.

Derick was found to be rather nervous at the beginning of his presentation at the November conference last week. Although thoroughly rehearsed, he couldn't explain the sound of vibrating nerves cracking his voice, his hands shaking.

The discussion takes public speaking focus as productive talks are imperative to The EntreProgrammers personal visibility in the marketing arena known for its entrepreneurial efforts. Not to fear because if there is a problem, then there is also a solution.

Derick’s concern takes The EntreProgrammers deep into the behavioral analysis regarding speaker audience relationship – need for a connection; a chemistry bond.

One technique of powerful emphasis - when used appropriately – is the pause; a moment of silence that embeds the presented information forever in the brain.

And the solution arrives when John shares an extremely useful exercise which is to be conducted just before a speaker makes her/his presentation to the audience.

It creates the nerves of steel that is essential for the calm and focus needed to capture the entire audience. And you’ll hear this great tactical maneuver of Johns, now, in episode 40 of The EntreProgrammers weekly Mastermind Session.

It’s quite natural for an entrepreneur to at least desire capital investment into her/his marketing and work efforts. Does this make the behavior of the entrepreneur a “total sell-out?” Is it ever okay to become a “total sell-out?”

The EntreProgrammers know; they take the discussion to capital investments and John gives everyone the true perspective as to when it is okay or not okay to become a “total sell-out.”

You are invited to jump-in on this discussion; voice your opinion by writing in the comment section in response to this question: “If it’s okay to become a “total sell-out” does that mean everyone “has a price?”

The EntreProgrammers highly appreciate your comments.

Chuck redirects path of discussion by insisting that The EntreProgrammers again focus on the marketing of Derick's Signalleaf.com podcast hosting site – and Derick is 100% all for this idea.

Chuck also indicates a video that he liked very much and would like to share it with you. The video is one of John’s productions with great advice on efficiency – how to get it all done. John’s production is titled: How I Plan My Week.

In this 8 minute video, John will show you how to get the most out of your day. Thanks Chuck! Click here for John’s video.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 39 Talk to People?

Charles, Chuck, you know, The Guy; he’s from Utah, has officially become one of The EntreProgrammers, and get this; he wants to become Josh – that’s right, more on this as we go.

Derick gets into analyzing just exactly how long of a subscription should he be selling, how to discourage cancellations with, perhaps, offering quarterly and/or yearly subscriptions. Let’s say your card expires and ends your subscription.

Should you have purchased a yearly instead of a monthly? John says yearly. What’s your take on this? Jump into this conversation with the (now 4) EntreProgrammers.

Give Chuck, John, Derick and Josh your comments by writing to them below; your comment might be read on-the-air, but then again...

If you are a person who hates people, absolutely dreads being around them more than 17 seconds and wouldn’t offer any of your ideas to them – even if paid – don’t worry because in this episode The EntreProgrammers will fix you.

You will actually enjoy coming out of your programmer’s cave to meet and (oh yes) talk to the human species.

John just returned from Sweden – so what? Well…he brought back some great ideas for connecting with other humans at a conference. John was one of the speakers at this conference in Sweden; met, talked and connected with lots of folks – that’s so what!

So, it’s a good idea to connect with The EntreProgrammers because they do it all for you.

These genius programmers were discussing whether or not someone would want to talk “to me.” Josh is a little concerned about this, too. Chuck set it all straight, in this conversation, when saying to Josh, “I want to be you!” How to be humble can be learned from the multitalented Josh.

Always remember that we want to hear from you – about anything.

So, who is Charles, Chuck, you know, The Guy; he’s from Utah and a beautiful state it is. Chuck is an unfriendly unknown sort, stays in his programmer’s cave, doesn’t like people – you know, he’s an Utahhonian human type person; so, this could take a little research.

Connect with Chuck. Go to: http://devchat.tv/about to connect with Chuck. He’ll put a smile on your face and grow your code. In addition, he gets into detail about his entrepreneurial effort in this podcast right after Josh blows our minds with his stats.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 36 Anti-Sponsor Apple Amazon

John’s funny look says it all when Derick says he wants to do a crazy radio broadcaster introduction for The EntreProgrammers Podcast which has received over 20,000 listeners according to the stats on Signalleaf.com podcast hosting service.

Apple destroys a tremendous amount of programming by Josh, and he’s not too please about it; therefore, Josh awards Apple as an Anti-Sponsor. Check out, in this episode, everything Josh did that Apple literally broke down.

Do you know a corporation that should be given the award of Anti-Sponsor for negligence towards human beings? Write in the comment section below and let The EntreProgrammers blast big business for human negligence.

The EntreProgrammers go up against the biggest there is and fear no one. In addition to Apple’s human negligence, John gives Amazon a big award of Anti-Sponsor, which is also backed-up by Derick, for a ridiculous marketing strategy that could be called an outright lie. You’ll hear their remarks in this episode.

Can you recover from a computer crash? Do you have off-sight storage?

The EntreProgrammers want you to play it safe and get into a big discussion about the value of storage space and where it should be located. How would you feel if you woke-up one morning and all of your files where gone – floating around somewhere in cyber space?

When you have a great deal of valuable content, do you know what to do with it? You’ll hear some productive and powerful ideas on this subject as The EntreProgrammers examine the use of their own accumulated content. Josh shares some remarkable ideas.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 35 Appreciation

John talks about his experience with a “grumpy” cable guy and billing without TV that doesn’t really make any sense. The EntreProgrammers discuss download and upload power from their ISP.

John’s book is over 1,000 in sales plus the publisher is suggesting a video to go with the book. Is this the beginning of a trend? Do you think publishers will begin asking for videos with the author’s book? Leave your comment.

The subject of conversion rate comes up as The EntreProgrammers analyze this process. What percentage of visitors should be converted into customers?

Derick is focused on Signalleaf. He has come up with informative tracking procedures that every podcast producer should have, even a 6 week period.

The discussion goes to the importance of diet; Josh has a little person emergency and takes leave. Derick tells a funny story about silly putty. Remember that stuff? Ever get it in your hair?

Josh talks about his early days as a writer and how many of the people around him didn’t use a calendar. It definitely was a learning experience – Josh tells all.

Planning and scheduling is always an important task for the entrepreneur, but there is a good and bad way to go about this. John explains the necessity of staying flexible.

Do you appreciate who you are and what you have? Derick takes this idea and talks down to earth as he begins to realize just how good he has it. Talking to a friend resulted in somewhat of an epiphany.

Perhaps, the single most important outstanding characteristic of the successful entrepreneur is to “know thyself” in the arena of appreciation. How do you feel about this?

The EntreProgrammers Episode 34 Warrior Diet

Humans replaced with code?

What’s good in the computer market? What’s the warrior diet? Programming robots? Why doesn't Josh like iPhones? Derick’s Kindle Paperwhite is a lie?

Derick refers to an EntreProgrammer fan, Matt Kremer, who offers a great deal of valuable information. Visit Matt’s web site at: https://kobra.io/

A rather confusing arena of marketing, programming and technology tackled by The EntreProgrammers, now makes more sense; these 3 smash the in-denial Apple which seems to think that it’s your fault.

You get an in depth analysis of computers from The EntreProgrammers in this episode, and of course, a lot more – Josh reveals computer marketing as unethical; John predicts the way of the future in computer design; Derick implicates Microsoft Surface 3 will discontinue; and in a conference presentation, demonstrates that your robot can be programmed by writing code. Plus: Dip your phone or iPod in plastic? John explains.

You are the fly on the wall and you have The EntreProgrammers’ spontaneous, transparent and unrehearsed mastermind session. Could it be that these 3 EntreProgrammers have totally lost their minds? That the captain has truly left the bridge? Are they nuts?

It’s extremely important to eat well; hopefully, someday everyone on this planet will. Food creates behavior which greatly influence the decisions often made in the crucial development of programming and marketing strategy thriving in the entrepreneurial arena.

Maximus development of “self” depends on good food. Why are The EntreProgrammers eating only 1 meal per day – around 800 to 1,000 calories? Do you think that these 3 developerneurs are actually losing it?

The EntreProgrammers explain advantages of the warrior diet. Add your comments to this discussion. How do you feel about what The EntreProgrammers are doing? What is it that you do? John has been on the warrior diet for 2.5 months. Says he feels great.

Derick is in Oklahoma City, recently gave a presentation at a conference and tells you all about it – ways to control robots, program them to obey your commands. Just think; humans can be replaced with coed. Write some code to program your robot…

The EntreProgrammers Episode 33 Seneca’s Letters

The EntreProgrammers analyze different aspects that make-up a great entrepreneur; things get started with diet, after John explains an uneventful 10 hours of flight to get home.

Diet, of course, is extremely important to the success of an entrepreneurial effort. Yes, you are what you eat which includes making business choices based on diet – your diet. Derick goes into detail what all of this could mean in a day of having to make many choices.

If possible, make your decisions when you feel good; avoid making important decision when you don’t feel good. The greatest asset of an entrepreneur is to “know thyself.”

Josh talks about how focused he is – “laser focus.” He gets into detail concerning his choice to better himself as a copywriter. He and Derick drop a few copywriters’ names for those of you interested.

An analysis of book sales dropping for both Josh and Derick takes place as they hammer-out resolutions and new directions for their entrepreneurial efforts. John is focused on tying-up loose ends of what he has already created.

John unites the 3 to work together on projects. This could turn-out to be quite interesting as The EntreProgrammers will focus on one project at a time over a 3 day period. Stay tuned for this one.

Derick details the main frame scheduling system that he is creating; he will own the rights and is fast considering promoting and marketing this system. You don’t want to miss this.

At the end of their discussion, John recommends a book that he is reading, titled, Seneca’s Letters. “…best wisdom writing that I’ve ever read.” An excellent place to get this book to read for free as well as other information is the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/Seneca

The EntreProgrammers Episode 32 Marcus Aurelius

Derick talks about his production schedule with WatchMeCode, just after spending 2.5 hours behind the mic. The approach that John recommended 2 weeks ago is now working for Derick as he focuses on one project for one week.

Derick’s description of his production schedule is a lesson in itself to all entrepreneurs who plan their daily and weekly schedules. Derick’s estimation on how long a project would take was off just a little. So, how long does it take to write a book?

Do you ever get a potential client who says, “I want a web site. How long will it take to build it?” Capture all of the details to a project that you possibly can. The accuracy of your estimation is counting on it.

Derick has the rest of the year planned out. He is focused, yet consultation is getting a little “scary” as he pushes up against that deadline.

Josh has “too much going on right now” and has decided to quit SitePoint. This successful EntreProgrammer seems to be constantly choosing his successes. What happens when you succeed? Then what do you do? Enter Marcus Aurelius.

It’s extremely important that entrepreneurs learn how to deal with the consequences of success. John talks about this in some detail. Ironically, success can destroy the best of entrepreneurs. John helps to find us answers to this dilemma in the writings of the Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius.

The EntreProgrammers Episode 31 Nice! Nice!

John, who didn’t know how to program his alarm clock, was almost a no-show as a result. That’s because time just does not exist in Hawaii. Josh wants to hear all about John’s book, so John gives the details – about 1,000 sold, so far – along with future marketing plans. John plans to rock the community when he returns to The EntreProgrammer arena.

Then a big discussion takes place concerning Josh’s intent to consult. The other 2 EntreProgrammers most definitely have something to say about that – WARNING! But Josh stands his ground. Josh trains to consult. But, what do you have when you consult?

Both John and Derick have backgrounds as consultants and go into rather lengthy detail as to the ups and downs of this entrepreneurial effort. Josh describes how he is going about capturing clients in the consultation arena.

The EntreProgrammers are hot for debate, sniffing the trail of resolutions. What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur? It takes the ability to endure. John pushes the point that when you start, don’t stop and reroute. This will ruin the already developed effort, only to start a new one all over again.

John not only writes books, he reads them, too! And he’s got a great one going now. The author goes into great detail about how to develop new constructive powerful habits offering that kind of growth that gets you places. Discipline is merely habit.

Derick is liking his new way of doing his projects; focusing one week on one project at a time. He explains his achievements and high energy productivity. John notices that Derick seems to be feeling pretty darn good these days. Wonder if his accomplishments have anything to do with that? And so it goes…
